Jambavantham - ஜாம்பவந்தம் - Urumpirai

எழுமின் விழிமின் உழைமின் - பாடல்

Hindus, De-hypnotize Yourself.
Let us proclaim to every soul: “Arise, awake, and do not stop until the goal is attained.”
Awaken, awaken Break free from the hypnosis of weakness.
The soul is infinite, omnipotent, and omniscient, so none are truly weak.
Stand up, be assertive, proclaim the God within you, and do not deny Him! Too much inactivity, too much weakness, too much hypnosis has been and continues to be a burden on our race. De-hypnotize yourself,
O modern Hindus. The method is found in your own sacred books. Teach yourself, teach everyone his true nature, and watch how the sleeping soul awakens. Power, glory, and goodness will all arrive. When this sleeping soul is roused to self-conscious activity, purity and everything excellent will come.   - Swami Vivekananda

Essentials of Living a Spiritual Life

Sri Ramakrishna: ‘You were talking of worshipping the clay image. Even if the image is made of clay, there is need for that sort of worship. God Himself has provided different forms of worship. He who is the Lord of the Universe has arranged all these forms to suit different men in different stages of knowledge. . .

M. (humbly): ‘Yes, sir. How, sir, may we fix our minds on God?’
Sri Ramakrishna: ‘Repeat God’s name and sing His glories, and keep holy company;and now and then visit God’s devotees and holy men. The mind cannot dwell on God if it is immersed day and night in worldliness, in worldly duties and responsibilities; it is most necessary to go into solitude now and then and think of God. To fix the mind on God is very difficult, in the beginning, unless one practises meditation in solitude. When a tree is young it should be fenced all around; otherwise it may be destroyed by cattle.

‘To meditate, you should withdraw within yourself or retire to a secluded corner or to the forest. And you should always discriminate between the Real and the unreal. God alone is real, the Eternal Substance; all else is unreal, that is, impermanent. By discriminating thus, one should shake off impermanent objects from the mind.’

M. (humbly): ‘How ought we to live in the world?’
Sri Ramakrishna: ‘Do all your duties, but keep your mind on God. Live with all—with wife and children, father and mother—and serve them. Treat them as if they were very dear to you, but know in your heart of hearts that they do not belong to you. . . .

M. Is it possible to see God?
Sri Ramakrishna: Yes, certainly. Living in solitude now and then, repeating God’s name and singing His glories, and discriminating between the Real and the unreal —these are the means to employ to see him.

Thambyah Mudaliyar Chathiram - Memorial opening 7-8-2017

Commemoration of Stay /visit/ Use of Thambyah Mudaliyar ChathiramBy Swami Vivekananda & 7 Direct Disciplesof Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Deva. On 7th of August 2017.

The memorial was unveiled on the 7th of August 2017, in the Presence of Hon. D.M. Swaminathan, (Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs) by Rev Swami Goutamanandaji Maharaj (Vice President, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission and the President, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai).
All were welcome by Sri J.M. Swaminathan, Attorney-at-Law, a board member of Ramakrishna Mission (Ceylon Branch) and a descendant of the family members who made the address of welcome to Swami Vivekananda & traveled with him in Sri Lanka.

Revered Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj spoke on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda and Harmony of Religions and also felicitated the present trustees of the Thambyah Mudaliyar Chathiram for continuing the services of Thambyah Mudaliar Chathiram and permitting Ramakrishna Mission to have a Memorial at the historical important place.

The Chathiram was established in Colombo by Sri Thambyah Mudaliyar in 1880 for local & Indian pilgrims of Lord Muruga of the famous temple Kathirkamam (Kataragama), to rest on their way.

Sri Thambaiyah Muthaliyar was a member of the 1st Colombo Municipal Council and relative of the well-known Sir Ponnambalam Ramanathan & Ponnambalam Arunachalam.  The above three together with other prominent members of Hindu Society, assembled at the Chathiram to organize a grand reception, the scale never given to any other person in the history of Sri Lanka, to receive Swami Vivekananda when he visited Sri Lanka on 15th January 1897 on his way to India.

Swami Vivekananda later sent Swami Shivananda in July to Sri Lanka to spread the message of Sri Ramakrishna. He stayed in the Chathiram and conducted classes, lectures, etc. for about 8 months.

Swami Ramakrishnananda, Swami Abhedananda, Swami Turiyananda, Swami Vijanananda, Swami Triguanatitananda and Swami Niranjanananda visited Sri Lanka on various occasions. The Hindu Chathiram was the only place available at that time for them.
