Let us proclaim to every
soul: “Arise, awake, and do not stop until the goal is attained.”
Awaken,
awaken Break free from the hypnosis of weakness.
The soul is infinite,
omnipotent, and omniscient, so none are truly weak.
Stand up, be assertive,
proclaim the God within you, and do not deny Him! Too much inactivity, too much
weakness, too much hypnosis has been and continues to be a burden on our race.
De-hypnotize yourself,
O modern Hindus. The method is found in your own sacred
books. Teach yourself, teach everyone his true nature, and watch how the
sleeping soul awakens. Power, glory, and goodness will all arrive. When this
sleeping soul is roused to self-conscious activity, purity and everything
excellent will come. - Swami Vivekananda
Essentials of Living a Spiritual Life
Sri Ramakrishna: ‘You were talking of worshipping the clay image. Even if the image is made of clay, there is need for that sort of worship. God Himself has provided different forms of worship. He who is the Lord of the Universe has arranged all these forms to suit different men in different stages of knowledge. . .
M. (humbly): ‘Yes, sir. How, sir, may we fix our minds on God?’ Sri Ramakrishna: ‘Repeat God’s name and sing His glories, and keep holy company;and now and then visit God’s devotees and holy men. The mind cannot dwell on God if it is immersed day and night in worldliness, in worldly duties and responsibilities; it is most necessary to go into solitude now and then and think of God. To fix the mind on God is very difficult, in the beginning, unless one practises meditation in solitude. When a tree is young it should be fenced all around; otherwise it may be destroyed by cattle. ‘To meditate, you should withdraw within yourself or retire to a secluded corner or to the forest. And you should always discriminate between the Real and the unreal. God alone is real, the Eternal Substance; all else is unreal, that is, impermanent. By discriminating thus, one should shake off impermanent objects from the mind.’
M. (humbly): ‘How ought we to live in the world?’ Sri Ramakrishna: ‘Do all your duties, but keep your mind on God. Live with all—with wife and children, father and mother—and serve them. Treat them as if they were very dear to you, but know in your heart of hearts that they do not belong to you. . . .
M. Is it possible to see God? Sri Ramakrishna: Yes, certainly. Living in solitude now and then, repeating God’s name and singing His glories, and discriminating between the Real and the unreal —these are the means to employ to see him.
The year 1897 was very significant in Yogaswami’s life. It appears that
Swamigal quit His job at the end of that year and returned to Jaffna. He was
about twenty-five years of age at that time. It was a period when Swamigal was
advancing systematically in spiritual life. Swami Vivekananda came to Sri Lanka in January 1897. A reception procession was given to him in Jaffna on 24-01-1897 and Yogaswami took
part in that reception. The procession started from Chavakachcheri and ended in the Jaffna Hindu College. Yoga Swami participated in that
procession.
Devotion to the End
Yogar Swamigal used to describe with great enthusiasm, in later years, about the way
Vivekananda delivered his speech in the specially constructed dais after the
procession reached Hindu College. Swamigal said that Vivekananda walked
criss-cross both ends of the stage and began his speech with the words, “The subject is large but the time is short.”
Yogar Swamigal saw Siva in Swami Vivekananda - As Avatara.
He said that Vivekananda’s bright and electrified eyes enchanted the audience. Yogar Swamigal had great respect and devotion for Ramakrishna Paramahamsar and
Vivekananda till to the end. Swamigal made arrangement to translate the book,
“In the Hours of Meditation” written by Vivekananda’s disciple, Alexander in
1925. This was the first publication which was published under Swamigal
supervision. Later in 1955 Swamigal arranged for publications of small-size
books on the “Essence of orations of Swami Vivekananda” as Sivathondan
publication.
Yogar Swamigal had special respect for the monks of Ramakrishna Mission. Swamigal had
issued directives that whoever hailed from the Mission, they should be received
in full respect in the Sivathondan Nilayam. Moreover, Swamigal had supported
and blessed Swami Vipulanandar when he wanted to become a monk in the
Ramakrishna Mission. Swamigal gave the first donation to the students’ Orphan
Home in Mattakaluppu, which was originally started in Jaffna by Ramakrishna
Mission.
Yogaswami had four sayings, which he repeated to most people who came to see him. They were known as the Maha Vakyas. These were interpreted by many in different ways according to each one's level of understanding, because they contained truths at various levels of application—some very profound on the metaphysical level.

He is considered by many as an icon for his fearless courage, his positive exhortations to the youth, his broad outlook to social problems, and countless lectures and discourses on Vedanta philosophy.
“The Swami’s mission was both national and international. A lover of mankind, he strove to promote peace and human brotherhood on the spiritual foundation of the Vedantic Oneness of existence.
Achieving Global Goals - following Swami Vivekananda
By Thiyaga & Seva - Sacrifice & Service
The gift of India is the gift of religion and philosophy, and wisdom and spirituality. And religion does not want cohorts to march before its path and clear its way. Wisdom and philosophy do not want to be carried on floods of blood. Wisdom and philosophy do not march upon bleeding human bodies, do not march with violence but come on the wings of peace and love, and that has always been so. Therefore we had to give.
you growing spiritually?
Can you love others?
Can you feel oneness with others?
Have you peace within yourself? and do you radiate it around you?
That is called spiritual growth, which is stimulated by meditation inwardly, and by work done in a spirit of service outwardly." ~~~ Swami Ranganathananda
This universe is simply a gymnasium in which the soul is taking exercise; and after these exercises we become God. So the value of everything is to be decided by how far it is a manifestation of God. Civilization is the manifestation of that divinity in man.
The greatest help to spiritual life is meditation. In meditation we divest ourselves of all material condition and feel our divine nature.
You must give your body, mind, and speech to “the welfare of the world”. You have read –” look upon your mother as God, look upon your father as God”– but I say ” the poor, the illiterate, the ignorant, the afflicted — let these be your God.” Know that service to these alone is the highest religion.
“Everything can be sacrificed for truth, but truth cannot be sacrificed for anything” - Swami Vivekananda.
